Architect: Enric Miralles (†), Barcelona

The Scottish Parliament was built according to the design of the Catalan architect Enric Miralles who died in 2000 and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004. The striking roof is modelled on the upside-down hull of a ship. With the new parliament building, Miralles is interpreting context, tradition and local history using form and materials.
In 2005, the new parliament building was awarded the Stirling Prize, the coveted architectural prize of the Royal Institute of British Architects. This prize is awarded annually and is regarded as the most prestigious award for contemporary British architecture.

GU solution: the wilful materials and forms presented a very specific challenge in terms of equipment used for each specific window, for which our UNI-JET Tilt&Turn hardware was used
