Kulturhaus Aue, D

Architect: Ingenieurbüro Klaus Georgi GmbH, Crottendorf, DE

The protected monument Kulturhaus Aue (known as the Erzgebirge District Cultural Centre since 2008)
was built in the 1950s by SDAG Wismut, a mining company with a core workforce of around 45,000 employees, and was initially used by the organisation as an arts and leisure centre. In the 1960s, the Kulturhaus was taken over by Aue district, becoming a public culture house for the region with a multifunctional character.
Kulturhaus Aue has now been providing cultural diversity in the region for more than 50 years. It has always provided a platform for high-quality national and international stars.

Since 1990, the Kulturhaus has been subject to ongoing conversion and renovation works. This includes a range of measures to improve fire protection, including renewing the smoke exhaust installation. The result is a representative community building from the Wismut era typical of the town, preserved to the finest detail and combining the architecture of the “National Tradition” with modern forms.

GU supplied the smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system (drives, control centre, RWA air supply) for this building project. This required a special solution to ensure that the 2-sash casement windows could open and close consistently.
