Architect: Architekturbüro Ulrich Engel, Hamburg

This was built in two parts according to the design by the Hamburg firm of architects Ulrich Engel: only the listed south and west facades of the old bank building were retained; these were laboriously refurbished and supplemented by natural stone facades to the east and north. The seven storey new office complex is also freestanding and slightly offset.

The facade is a combination of glass and light jura stone with a fine horizontal structure. The buildings are connected by a plinth storey which has been lowered to create a new open space which rises slightly above street level.

The compact volume of the new building of the NRW BANK in Münster forms a successful symbiosis with the adjacent listed building.
The integrated fully glazed revolving door is powered by an underfloor drive and has no canopy cover as the ceiling forms the connection between the revolving door and the building directly. The air curtain system is a vertical version.
