Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, ES

Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao
Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao

Architect: Frank O. Gehry, USA

Designed by Frank O. Gehry, the museum with its collage-like composition, complex angles and bold material combinations, is in itself a work of art and an example of deconstructivist architecture. An absolute geometry cannot be found anywhere. To recall the strength, independence and industrial tradition of the Basque country, materials such as metal, stone and water have been used. The museum opened in October 1997 and can host first class art exhibitions on a total area of 24,000 square metres. Today, the building is a landmark of the city and has helped put Bilbao on the international map.
